The AFCA proposes transfer portal reforms to balance player freedom with program stability, addressing chaos in modern college football’s landscape

Despite numerous transfer portal entries since the semifinal loss to Ohio State, Sarkisian and Co. are welcoming the No. 1 high school class of 2025 with 19 blue-chip prospects committed to the program, per 247Sports .

FBS coaches recently voted unanimously in favor of replacing the current two portal periods with one 10-day stretch in January starting in 2026.

FBS coaches voted to move the transfer window to Jan. 2 through Jan. 12 starting in the 2025-26 academic year. The move would wipe out the current portal windows in December and April and potentially provide a boost to teams competing in the college football playoff and the lesser bowl games.

Student-athletes can enter their names into the transfer portal during two different periods for the 2024-25 academic year. The first took place in early December and the second in late April.

Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton Jr. was arguably Auburn’s biggest signing of the winter window, ranking as the top receiver in the portal, according to On3 and 247Sports. He and Wake Forest transfer Horatio Fields were the two receivers Auburn signed, with both coming off quality seasons in the ACC.
