MSNBC will retain its name after it is spun off from Comcast along with other cable assets. Mark Lazarus, who is leading the new company, told network staffers of the plans at a meeting today to announce the departure of Rashida Jones as the network’s president and the naming of Rebecca Kutler as interim leader, according to a network source.

Rashida Jones, who made history in 2021 with her leadership of MSNBC, announced Tuesday that she is stepping down from her role as network president. Jones (not to be confused with Quincy Jones’ actress and filmmaker daughter who shares the same name) leaves the network as it prepares to separate from its parent company

Jones ends her four-year run at the network. Her second-in-command, Rebecca Kutler, will be interim president.

Rashida Jones had been president of MSNBC since February 2021 and decided over the holidays that she would leave the network.

Jones helped MSNBC surpass CNN in ratings, though viewership has dropped since the election.
