The New York Jets interviewed interim coach Jeff Ulbrich for their head coach vacancy. Ulbrich was the team’s defensive coordinator the past four seasons and went 3-9 after replacing the fired Robert Saleh on Oct.

While Ulbrich was tasked with running the defense while also adding head coach duties, the Jets stumbled under his leadership in several different ways. New York went 3-9 with Ulbrich as the interim head coach and finished a once-promising season at a disastrous 5-12 mark.

The Jets formally interviewed Ulbrich for their opening. Ulbrich was thrown into the role of interim head coach on Oct. 8 after Robert Saleh was fired. The Jets went 3-9 under Ulbrich and finished 5-12 overall. Ulbrich is very popular among the players and in the Jets’ building, but he is considered a long shot to keep the job.

Former head coach Robert Saleh was fired by the team all the way back in October. At the time, New York had a 2-3 record. After turning things over to interim Jeff Ulbrich, it didn’t go much better. The Jets finished the 2024 NFL season at 5-12.

The Jets have cast a wide net in their search for a new head coach and the list expanded to include an in-house candidate on Monday.

On Oct. 8, after Jets owner Woody Johnson fired Robert Saleh following a 2-3 start, Ulbrich, who was the defensive coordinator, became the team’s interim coach. Johnson hoped Ulbrich would ignite a spark and lead Gang Green to the playoffs. However, Saleh’s firing had the opposite effect.

Ulbrich was thrust into the role of the Jets' interim head coach on Oct. 8, five games into the 2024 NFL season, after Robert Saleh was dismissed. Before that, he served as the team's defensive coordinator since January 2021. With Ulbrich at the helm, the team went 3-9, completing the regular season with a 32-20 victory over AFC East rival Miami.
