The new zones were put in at Rampart High School, Mitchell High School, Jenkins Middle School, and Carmel Community School. The city identified these schools as being heavy traffic areas and thus more likely to see potential accidents involving students.

Four more school zones have been installed across Colorado Springs. The city hopes to slow down traffic and keep students safer in light of a previous tragedy outside a school. A student hit by a car and killed at Doherty High School in 2023 was the catalyst for a more concerted effort
