Authorities in southern India have detained almost 50 men suspected of repeatedly raping and sexually abusing a girl from the age of 13.

The survivor, an athlete, belongs to one of India’s most oppressed castes. Police say they have arrested at least 28 people based on her complaint. They are accused of sexually abusing her over five years. The accused, aged between 17 and 47, include her neighbour, sports coach, father's friend, fellow athletes, and classmates.

We have identified the remaining 14 and they will be arrested soon,” says deputy superintendent of police in Pathanamthitta district where the crimes took place.

The unnamed woman, now 18, said around 60 men sexually abused her in her southern home state of Kerala beginning from when she was just 13.
