Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the strategically significant Z-Morh tunnel on Monday, which will enable year-round access to the popular tourist destination in the Sonamarg region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier called the Z-Morh tunnel due to its shape, the 6.4-km passage, now to be known as Sonamarg tunnel, is the first step towards the connectivity plan, with the next being the completion of the Zojila tunnel connecting Sonamarg in Kashmir with Drass in Ladakh.

The Sonamarg tunnel ensures seamless connectivity between Gagangir and Sonamarg in Kashmir and will ease summer travel to Ladakh.
