Gov. Greg Abbott said a universal, school choice voucher program that gives parents public dollars to spend on private school tuition will help Texas lead

The bill would provide eligible families with $10,000 per student in the form of a school voucher to help fund private and home school education.

According to TSTA, while Senate Bill 2 has an initial cost of about $1 billion, the bill is expected to balloon up to $6 billion by the 2028-29 budget period. The association claims those factors would add to the ongoing financial issues, causing more teachers to disappear from classrooms.
