U.S. travelers are not giving up hope that cruises will one day return to a bucket-list travel destination in the Caribbean. For a brief period not so long ago, cruise ships departing the U.S. were able to offer travelers a simple, legal way to visit an island that had long been closed off to U.S. tourists.

Two major cruise lines have addressed a controversial hidden fee that has annoyed customers. Both Carnival Cruise and Royal Caribbean charge passengers for unreturned towels. All towels used at the pool or during execursions must be returned using your cabin number and room key.

Most cruise lines put guests' cabin numbers right on their on-board account cards (which double as room keys). Margaritaville at Sea prints the entire cabin number on the card, while Royal Caribbean puts the room number but not the deck (floor),
