Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has hired former Stanford sideline boss David Shaw as his new passing game coordinator.

Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions have had to revamp their coaching staff early this offseason. The Lions lost both coordinators to head coaching jobs, with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson taking over the Chicago Bears and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn leaving for the New York Jets.

Following the Detroit Lions’ surprise exit in the postseason at the hands of the Washington Commanders, the Lions coaching staff has been ravaged by teams around the NFL that hired assistant coaches to more prominent roles.

David Shaw coached Stanford to two Rose Bowl wins, and now joins Detroit Lions remade offensive coaching staff under Dan Campbell for 2025 season.

Detroit had the second best offense in football under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the seventh best scoring defense in the league under defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Considering the team's success the last two years, it's no surprise that both of those guys are top coaching candidates.
