The movie, directed by Michael Morris (“To Leslie”), is based on the 2013 book of the same name by Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding, who co-wrote the screenplay with Abi Morgan and Dan Mazer. Universal Pictures is distributing the film in theaters outside the U.S.

The teaser trailer for the gonzo horror-sci-fi comedy "Companion" released late last year stated that it was "from the studio that brought you 'The Notebook.'" This is cheeky, for sure, but it's also technically true: "Companion" studio New Line Cinema was responsible for the beloved Ryan Gosling/Rachel McAdams romance.
