The Avalanche shocked many with the trading of star Mikko Rantanen. But Colorado may not be done with trades -- and here are three areas the Avs' next trade could address.

A skier was killed in an avalanche on January 7, 2025 on Red Mountain Pass in Colorado. One advantage for the Carolina Hurricanes extending Rantanen is they can now go eight years with other teams only seven. The Hurricanes might also propose deferred payments as they did for Seth Jarvis and Jaccob Slavin. Rantanen has the same agent, Andy Scott, as Leon Draisait; and they didn’t go for the Edmonton Oilers offer of deferred payments.
