Bob Dylan's draft lyrics for his 1965 song Mr Tambourine Man have sold at auction for $508,000 (£417,471) in the US. The lyrics on two yellow sheets of paper are three typewritten drafts of the song - but not the final version.

Bob Dylan is enjoying yet another wave of recognition with his story of coming to superstardom being told in the film A Complete Unknown. Now, BBC News reports that two pages of old paper containing the draft lyrics to one of his most famous songs have sold at auction for $508,000.

A spectacular haul of Bob Dylan memorabilia, including early drafts of the singer and songwriter’s number 1 hit “Mr. Tambourine Man” and an original oil painting, will soon go under the hammer.

The typewritten drafts were among 60 items on sale in an auction, most of them from the personal collection of music journalist Al Aronowitz.

The top seller at the auction was the original typewritten draft lyrics to “Mr. Tambourine Man,” which sold for $508,000. Other notable top sellers included a signed original 1968 oil on canvas painting by Dylan for $260,000. Dylan’s owned and used 1983 Fender Telecaster sold for $222,250.
