Robert Blackwell III, 35, was charged with attempting to murder an Oakland officer sitting in his patrol vehicle when bullets struck the car.

Oakland police said the officer soon realized it was his patrol car that was hit by the gunfire. He was not injured. The officer may have been targeted, police said.
