Weather forecasters are urging drivers to slow down and use extra caution this weekend, because they might have to contend with icy roads as the latest winter storm takes aim at New Jersey. Because of fluctuating temperatures in the atmosphere and on the ground when the storm arrives on Saturday,

Light snow continues through the weekend. Arctic air then makes a return next week with highs in the teens and lows below zero.

After widespread showers Saturday morning we’ll see a break around midday. This break will allow for a band of thunderstorms to develop to our west, moving them through our area after 2PM. Some storms could be strong, but severe weather is unlikely.

A winter storm was sweeping across a large portion of the US on Thursday, bringing snow, ice and rain to several states in the Midwest and Northeast.

Some bits of patchy sleet & light freezing rain will begin to make it into far southwestern areas after 7 a.m. Greatest coverage & intensity of precipitation overall is 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. After some morning flakes, Sunday is mostly cloudy. A localized light dustings of snow are possible Saturday night-Sunday morning.

Just as one winter storm that brought snow and ice exits the Northeast, a new winter storm is expected to slam similar areas over the weekend.

The latest system is expected to sweep across the northern part of the country, bringing heavy snow to the northern Plains and Northeast — and more accumulating ice to the mid-Atlantic.
