New Mexico State Police shot and killed a man during a traffic stop Monday night in Hobbs, according to the chief.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - On Monday night, New Mexico State Police Chief says officers shot and killed a man during a traffic stop near East Marland Boulevard and South Fowler Street in Hobbs. NMSP Chief Troy Weisler said officers pulled a white Dodge Charger over there just after 6 p.m.

When 28-year-old Jesus Rubio of Las Cruces exited his vehicle during a traffic stop, he raised his arms as if he was pointing a gun. That is when police fired.

The New Mexico Supreme Court has struck down abortion restrictions by conservative cities and counties at the request of the state attorney general.
