Tesla Inc. shares rose about 21.9%, its largest daily gain since May 2013, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Treasury yields finished lower on Thursday, held down by renewed demand for U.S. government debt from buyers.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed higher on Thursday as EV maker Tesla had its best day in a decade, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average extended its losing streak to four days.

Contracts tied to the S&P 500 gained 0.3%. Futures for the technology-heavy Nasdaq added 0.7%. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were flat before the market opened. Rising bond yields were seen as the culprit for yesterday’s retreat, since higher interest rates on borrowing make those investments more attractive relative to stocks.
