The original Rayman is the game that put Ubisoft on the map. It’s been over a decade since the last installment in the colorful platformer franchise, but the French publisher is currently in the “early stages” of exploring what will come next for the series’ titular limbless hero.

We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand. The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe.

Update (24/10/24): Publisher Ubisoft has issued a statement in relation to this story, confirming to Kotaku that Rayman is currently undergoing an "exploration phase" within two of its studios.

It was recently reported that Ubisoft disbanded the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown shortly after releasing its Mask of Darkness DLC. Developers of that team ended up splintering off into different projects.

The Rayman franchise may be coming back. Following rumors of a remake, Ubisoft has confirmed that two studios in early stages of developing a new Rayman project.

Ubisoft is putting together a team for a Rayman Remake, with a number of devs from the disbanded Prince of Persia team reportedly involved.

According to Insider Gaming, around a "dozen" members have been moved over to work on an unannounced Rayman remake. Controversially, the remake will be consulted by Michel Ancel, who left the gaming industry after allegations of "toxic leadership" in 2020.

Ubisoft has confirmed that it's exploring the possibility of a new Rayman game following reports that the recently-disbanded Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team was working on, among other things, a remake.
