Firefighters are still working to contain the Palisades Fire as search and rescue efforts continue Wednesday, just over a week after the massive wildfire broke out and left at least eight people as it burned more than 23,

LA County’s fire chief says crews are better prepared but warns that everyone in the potential fire zones should be ready to evacuate.

Additional water tankers and scores of firefighters have arrived in the Los Angeles area ahead of fierce winds that were forecast to return and threaten the progress made so far on two massive infernos that have destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 24 people.

Wednesday, 8:41 a.m. PST Cal Fire provided an update on the fires in Los Angeles, reporting 19% containment for the Palisades Fire, 45% containment for the Eaton Fire, 50% containment for the Auto Fire (later upgraded to 85% containment) and 97% containment for the Hurst Fire.

Californians in the greater Los Angeles area are on edge as dangerous winds and temperatures are forecast. The Palisades and Eaton fires have killed at least 25 and destroyed thousands of homes.

After killing at least nine people, the Palisades Fire continues to burn as residents remain under evacuation orders and warnings, with the next Santa Ana wind event continuing fire danger.
