Germany finds itself less prepared for warfare than when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Armed Forces Association head Col. Andre Wuestner told Reuters in an interview this week that shipping defense resources to the front lines of Ukraine has depleted their already crippled military.

The inspector of the German navy, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, confirmed successful acts of sabotage on several German ships, including the newest corvette Emden, which has not yet been commissioned.

Though it is unclear who may have carried out the sabotage, there is already speculation that Russia—or actors working at its behest—may have been involved.
