A coalition of U.S. cities and counties on Friday filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's executive order seeking to force so-called sanctuary jurisdictions to cooperate with his immigration crackdown and mass deportations.

The city of Portland is among a group of local governments that plan to file a lawsuit Friday challenging the Trump administration’s executive order targeting sanctuary cities. The lawsuit comes in response to steps President Donald Trump and his administration have taken to target cities and jurisdictions that don’t assist with federal immigration enforcement.

The lawsuit, which will be filed in a U.S. district court, is being led by Santa Clara County and San Francisco. Portland, New Haven and King County are also signing on. The legal action comes the day after the Department of Justice sued the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois over its sanctuary policies.
