The British minister responsible for financial services and fighting corruption resigned on Tuesday after weeks of questions over her financial ties to her aunt Sheikh Hasina, ousted last year as prime minister of Bangladesh.

Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq has resigned after growing pressure over an anti-corruption investigation in Bangladesh. She had referred herself to the prime minister's standards adviser, Sir Laurie Magnus, after questions about links to her aunt, who was ousted last year as Bangladesh's prime minister.

The anti-corruption minister said although she had been cleared by the parliamentary standards watchdog, she had become a “distraction” to the government

Tulip Siddiq served as the Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister and was responsible for addressing corruption within the UK's financial markets. Confirming her resignation on X, Siddiq stated that continuing in her role would be "a distraction" for the government,
